We made a bit of a meal of beating QPR but we did it. Meanwhile Chelsea had a ‘mare against Villa so here we are, back in the Champions League zone at the midpoint of the season. Now we’ve got to keep the door shut behind us and see what what happens ahead of us. The United result against Blackburn shows that there are plenty of surprises to be had in this league.
Over the next three days there’s another complete set of Premier League games. Here’s the six-point spread around Arsenal:
Pos | Club | Played | GD | Points |
---|---|---|---|---|
3 | Spurs | 18 | 15 | 39 |
4 | Arsenal | 19 | 9 | 36 |
5 | Chelsea | 19 | 13 | 34 |
6 | Liverpool | 19 | 9 | 34 |
The games that count are Fulham v Arsenal and Wolves v Chelsea tomorrow followed by Spurs v West Brom and Man City v Liverpool on Tuesday.
Fulham v Arsenal (Mon 17.30)
This is not an easy game. Although we’ve been winning, we haven’t been winning big and Fulham can be pretty solid. But they did lose their last home game – to Manchester United.
Fulham at home: DDDWLWLWWL
Arsenal away: DLLLWWWLW
Wolves v Chelsea (Mon 15.00)
Chelsea’s form is all over the place and they will still be hurting after their home defeat to Aston Villa. Will this inspire a fightback at Wolves. Will Cahill arrive in time, unlikely if news accounts are correct. Obviously we want to see Frimpong playing a blinder and protecting the Wolves back four! But your guess would surely be away win?
Wolves at home: WLLLDWWLD
Chelsea away: DWLWLWWDD
Spurs v West Brom (Tue 19.45)
Another away win surely. Roy Hodgson is a wiley campaigner and Spurs only got a point at Swansea on Saturday, but I don’t see them slipping up here. They dropped points at home last game but that was against Chelsea on an upswing.
Spurs at home: LWWWWWWD
West Brom away: LWLDWLDWW
Man City v Liverpool (Tue 20.00)
Man City have a perfect home record and I don’t see that being changed, even by Liverpool.
Man City at home: WWWWWWWWW
Liverpool away: WLLWWWWLWD
So for Arsenal, this next round of games is about securing three points to hold station in fourth and see what happens around us. If we could make some good progress on out goal difference, that would be a bonus.
